About Renana
(she/her/hers)
Renana grew up on the north side of Chicago where she found her love for great theater, good comedic timing, and very cold winters. During the summers she interned for the Goodman Theatre, Northlight Theatre, and performed with the well respected Gallery 37.
After graduating high school Renana moved east where she earned a BA in Theatre Arts from the University of Pittsburgh. While there, she co-founded the a capella group The VoKols and performed with them throughout her time in college. During the summers Renana began flexing her directing muscles with the New York Stage and Film Festival as a directing apprentice for the Powerhouse Apprenticeship as well as with the California International Theatre Festival.
Following her time in Pittsburgh Renana moved to Washington, DC where she started off working as the Artistic Directing Apprentice for Imagination Stage. For the next eight years she freelanced throughout the city as both a performer and director. For five years Renana worked as a performer, educator, and workshop facilitator for Kaiser Permanente's Educational Theatre Program. Pursuing her love for the craft of theatre making, she moved to New York to complete a masters in Educational Theatre from NYU and receive her teaching certificate. While there, she took classes at a number of acting studios including Primary Stages (ESPA Studios), Improbable Stages Theatre Company, Movement Studio Theatre, and SITI Theatre. During this time Renana studied abroad in Argentina and Puerto Rico and returned to facilitate a week-long teen workshop in theatre in the southeastern town of Yauco, PR.
Renana now works as a full-time drama teacher in the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) and as a freelance director in the DMV area. She is also a certified yoga instructor and teaches throughout the Washington DC area. Check back often for info on her current and upcoming work.
